Adam Chandler's Micro Blog

@gruber “ Would you pay, say, $50/year to get an ad-free experience on Facebook’s products?” I stopped using Facebook in 2011 and Twitter in 2013. Both departures would have never happened if both networks had a paid plan that didn’t show me ads and allowed for non-algorithmic newsfeeds. So yes, $50 …

@lakelady of course! And I’m happy to reconnect.

@lakelady Yep, fool me once. I too learned the hard way through Facebook’s connect feature way back in 2006-2010 and lost a lot of account access that way. Vowed to never do that again.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about “Login with Twitter” https://adamchandler.me/blog/2023/01/17/technology-what-about-log-in-with-twitter/ In that blog post, I asked about what would happen if that went away or was no longer an option for consumers or services using it. Today’s news that Twitter will …

Todays #OfficeFashion. My wife dressed me. She always does a good job. The shirt I picked out was supposedly wrinkled.

On rainy and cold days like today, the thought of having 6 motorcycle trips in 2023 already planned makes the day go by much faster.

Long day in the office. I took the #701Enduro by the way. Love that bike for city riding since it’s so light and nimble.

Couple of fashion accessories arrived. #AppleWatch #Pride

Perks of working for a Bay Area tech company is we sometimes get the best ice cream sandwiches in the world as a surprise…even though we’re thousands of miles away in North Carolina.

4 Weeks of usage history running my own Mastadon instance. Following about 45 people and followed by 25 with a few photos. Media Storage is something you should be aware of if running your own server. Your instance will cache media from the federated timeline and people you follow. There are admin …

60 degrees outside today. Toughest choice is what to ride.

Today’s #OfficeFashion

Feels good to see this number. Never going to get rich off this but i do enjoy it. First video posted in 2005, 1,462 videos and 9.7 million total views. Its been a lot of fun.

Nice personal milestone.

@gruber I’m running my own instance for $6 a month.

Infinity Pool was not my kind of film and feels like it was dreamt up on a napkin at a dive bar. #OneSentenceMovieReview.

Tonight, haircut and Infinity Pool (film). Big week for movies, seeing Knock at the Cabin as well.

Had an MRI done on my shoulder this morning. Last time I did this about a year ago, they took one image and used no dye. This time, two images + dye which should yield a better result. Feel on my shoulder 09/2021 from about 12 feet in the air and still can’t sleep comfortably. Not hoping for surgery …

Before you do a final Time Machine backup and wipe your machine, check to see if you excluded any folders. I excluded ~/Movies. That was dumb. Buh-Bye most of our honeymoon videos. Anything shot on the drone or real camera is gone.

Great day at Carowinds with the family. I really hope the photos on my 200MM Lens came out with the kids on rides.

Saturday! Going to Carowinds today.

I didn’t plan on doing a full MacOS system restore this weekend but Disk First Aid is clearly not giving me a choice. APFS with a standard OS install on an M1 Mac really shouldn’t suffer corruption but here we are.

but hey, it's Friday! WOOHOO

In other news, I wrote what I believed was a pretty good post yesterday about Persistence of Written Word in Mastodon. The Wordpress app for iPad lost it. So I probably won't write it again but oh well.

There are a few folks I'm following for which I'll have to mute or unfollow. I'm sorry to do this so soon into my Mastodon journey but since 2016, I've specifically chosen to not follow politics except for long-form journalism. I'll read long pieces in Atlantic or New Yorker or …
