I think reviewers are underselling the Black Ultra 2 just as they usually undersell the Hermes Edition watches.

The Ultra 2 (2024) is the only DLC treated Apple Watch available. DLC has been a staple of Apple Watch since the Series 0 in 2014 then becoming exclusive to Hermes for the last 2 generations. Before that it was Stainless Steel only until Series 7.

Don’t underestimate the resilience of Apple’s DLC treatment. My 2014 DLC Link Bracelet is still worn daily and looks brand new.
