It feels like the “Max” part of my M1 Max MacBook Pro is finally starting to pay off. Final Cut pro has automatic captions creation which is 100% offloaded to the GPU cores. MacWhisper added meeting recording and transcribing to text again, that uses all on-device GPU cores. Photo editing apps, lightroom, photoshop and more are all using the GPU more and there’s more GPU acceleration for video calls. It was feeling like having 32 GPU Cores was a waste for a very long time but even Apple is doing a great job embracing the power and I’m seeing less CPU pegged to 100% than I used to. I wish Lightroom exports to JPEG-XL was GPU accelerated as that takes a while on the CPUs.
